Artist Statement Arctic Return 2013 is the most recent phase of ongoing visual research of six central and western Arctic communities. While the photographs are place specific, they visually amplify the power of nature over socio-cultural and geo-political boundaries. The Ecology of Narrative Space, Identities and Memory are title variations for the purpose of aesthetic location. The first phase of this project used scanned film prints from my 1981 and rediscovered in the family album in 2008 and inspiring my practice for the next several years. This curent phase uses contemporary digital DSLR camera technology providing significantly greater visual information with which to be inspired.
