In Search of Bearings
Artist’s Talk – creative inspirations and process 11/27/2022
“In Search of Bearings” is about the psychosocial uncertainty of finding our way through changing corridors of places and identities impacted by climate change. Sequences of used and cancelled nautical maps of the St. Lawrence Seaway are reinvented within this narrative theme. Images of stationary wrapped boats and melting glaciers are visually connected by embellished nautical symbols of water levels. The geologically carved Seaway connects our interior to contemporary globally rising ocean levels caused by melting polar glaciers.
This exhibition is named after the larger Project In Search of Bearing involving multiple interrelated bodies of work on the psychosocial impacts of climate change.
